(Note: We are sorry to inconvenience everyone, but we have to make our best guess here for the good of the lodge and our members’ safety. A food order that is not used this week could be a costly loss for us if the TND has to be cancelled at the last minute. What would be even worse is if we ordered and cooked and no one shows up! We’re making the best decision with the info we have.)
Printable forms for “Elks Membership Application” and “Elks Application for Reinstatement” have been added to the Become an Elk page. They are in PDF format.
Torrington Elks Lodge BPOE 372 will be hosting the annual Elks Hoop Shoot Free Throw Contest at Vogel-Wetmore School’s gym on Friday, December 2nd.
The Elks Hoop Shoot is a free throw basketball contest for youth ages 8 to 13. There are boys and girls divisions for three age groups. The program is free to all contestants and provides youth an opportunity to compete, connect and succeed through hard work and healthy competition. Contestants do not need to play on a basketball team. Anyone can compete! Winners advance through Lodge, district, state and regional contests to reach National Finals in Chicago, Illinois. Last year, Torrington’s Will Parkhouse won the boy’s 8-9 year old division in Torrington, and then won at the district and state levels. He and his family were sent to Maine in March for a weekend, where he won the regional contest, which qualified Will to travel to Chicago with his family at the expense of the Elks to compete in the national finals. In the end, the names of the six national champions are permanently inscribed at the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, MA.
Age is based on the contestant’s age as of April 1, 2017.
Winners are announced and trophies awarded at the end of each age group’s competition. The 6 winners will advance to compete in the Northwest CT District Hoop Shoot contest on January 29th.
Please carry in your sneakers. Vogel-Wetmore’s address is 68 Church St. The gym entrance is at the back of the school. There will be a half hour of warm up time before each contest. Parents should plan to remain with their children as they compete. Questions? Contact Jean at 860-482-7088 or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
